The Ice Storm of '09

Then it was back to KY, where an ice storm knocked out our power for 6 days! We didn't fear for long, but found ourselves lodged snugly with Elizabeth and then with Holly's mom, who not only gave us a snug little suite, but also fed us vegetarian food. I'm not exagerating at all when I say that the night I heard our power came back on, I considered lying about it so I could stay for sweet potato stew.

Holly's mom, Kay, is one of the most engaged "adults" (by which I mean people over 55--I mean, 55 is the new 30) that I've ever met. And she's definitely the only mom I know whose questions I actually want to answer! It was so great to spend more time with her.

(no images for this, alas, but if you Google "Louisville ice storm," I'm sure you'll see some sad images of bent, shining trees. They're beautiful, but often destroyed.)
