Part Deux: Vermont College of Oh So Very Fine Arts
In January, I went to my fourth (and penultimate! Sniff!) residency at the most excellent Vermont College of Fine Arts, where I, along with my fantastic classmates, The Super-Secret Society of Quirk and Quill, threw what I hope is not bragging to say an excellent Clue-themed party for the graduating class. (I think everyone in this picture will be super-famous one day and scholars will drool over it.)
It was one of those rare occasions where everybody agrees on the over-all picture, splits off into their pods to do their part, and delivers even better than expected. I mean, could I photo-shop this? (Graduating student, made up as Professor Plum!)
Could I draw that? (It's Pippi, in chalk outline.)
I'm so lucky for these guys. (They also threw me my very first wedding shower! Like we didn't already have enough to do!)
For my final semseter, I got paired with an advisor I've wanted to work with since first semester. She was on sabbatical then, but she came back to introduce her graduating students at their readings, and I was so warmed by her jokiness and specific, loving knowledge of them. If we hadn't ever worked together, I would have felt like I'd left VC missing out on something big. So yay, Margaret, who told me stories about her boys decorating their birthday cakes with headless gummy bears and who agreed, even before we were paired, to be my aunt. ("Why?" she asked me later. "So we could see each other on holidays," I replied, "and it would be fun.")
I took this as I sat at her feet (ha! prescient!) while we waited for the group photo to be taken. She's the wise, uncharacteristically scary looking one on the left. The one on the right is my first-semester advisor, Julie! It's alpha and omega!
